I have tried Amarra HiFi, Audirvana, BitPerfect, Fidelia, HQPlayer and JRiver. ITunes is favourite browsing and tagging software and I ended up buying BitPerfect for it's seamless and unobtrusive integration.

HQPlayer produced the best sound, followed by Audirvana. Audirvana supports AUDIO UNIT plug-ins that can be used for equalisation and room correction. With Amarra I got clicks, pops and dropouts. Fidelia, HQPlayer, JRiver and have a very poor interface. JRiver is too complicated to setup. I might buy HQPlayer at some point, and use it by selecting the music in iTunes and then dragging it into HQPlayer.
