Some Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) users have found that their WiFi connection is somewhat unpredictable. Their network connections will drop at random. This article provides 2 fixes for this; fix #1 will add a new network location and renew DHCP, and fix #2 will change MTU size to prevent dropped connections. If there appears to be no Airport (also known as a wireless or WiFi) card installed on your computer, use Fix #3. If you are not experiencing this problem, do not use Fix #3. Open System Preferences and select Network preferences. Pull down the Location menu and choose Edit Locations.
Click the + button, name the new location and click Done. To renew the DHCP Lease click the Advanced. button in the bottom right corner of the screen. Select the TCP/IP tab at the top of the window. Configure IPv4 should be set to Using DHCP. Select Renew DHCP Lease. Click Apply and the appropriate settings will be renewed.
Fix #2 1. Open System Preferences and select Network preferences. Click the Advanced. button in the bottom right corner of the screen. Select the Hardware tab at the top of the window.
Pull down the Configure menu and set it to Manually. In the MTU pull down menu, select Custom and set the field to 1453. Click OK and close System Preferences. Fix #3 Use this fix ONLY IF you do NOT have an Airport (also known as a wireless or WiFi) card installed in your computer. Most Macintoshes have Airport cards installed. Open the Finder by clicking the Finder icon in the doc or by clicking on the desktop. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, select Go, then Go to Folder.
Type this exactly (if copy and paste will leave less room for error for you, use that method): /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist Then click Go. Move the com.apple.airport.preferences.plist file into the Trash. You will have to enter your computer password. You may have to try emtying the trash and/or restarting your computer in order for the change to take effect.
As it's not specifically mentioned in the issues addressed, am I safe in assuming that Rollup 4 does.not. contain the fix for MAC Outlook (and Entourage) experiencing delayed e-mail deliveries due to dropped TCP connections? I.e.: Mail is in the user's mailbox. And displays correctly in all clients apart from those using EWS (Outlook 2011 MAC & Entourage). Sounds like a client issue I know. But it's not! Issue is described in detail here: This issue has been known about since SP1 was released.
And there have been Interim updates to address it for all rollups. However the latest Interim update available is 'Exchange2010-KB2449266-x64-en.msp' which is is for RU3v3 - there doesn't.appear. to be one for 4 as yet. I was really hoping that RU4 would have it included - as this issue is a major headache for us. If it's not in 4 then I can't risk updating to 4 until the next Interim Update for this bug is released (which means constant calls to MS. Whose front line phone helpdesk don't know anything about this issue. And in fact deny it exists:-/).
I had been through the official list of fixes. However it wouldn't be the first time that multiple issues are fixed by a single code change (and not mentioned). Doesn't help that this issue is still denied by front line Microsoft tech support. And you have to 'prove' to them that it exists (I'm just glad that there are some KB articles that you can point them to) Glad I didn't install Rollup 4 though. As it's been pulled. The introduced Public Folder / PST issues would have been a nightmare.
