Note in the above error log that what differs for each file is the time stamp and that is exactly one hour apart. The desktop.plist differs in size, but that is to be expected because it changes so frequently.
Suspecting some sort of daylight savings time problem, I cloned my startup volume again (without using Retrospect) and now the time stamps of the files are the same. I'm not sure what is happening, but it looks like Retrospect is trying to do me a 'favor' when it copies the files. Whatever is happening, the verification error log includes some misleading (at best) errors. I don't see why the time stamps would be changed in an immediate local duplicate. Dual 2.5 Power Macintosh G5 (OS 10.3.8) startup/working volume is a 250GB mirrored RAID set backup is duplicating startup volume (with Retrospect) to alternating 250GB LaCie FW800 external HDs Immediately before each duplicate I boot from the previous external duplicate and check out my internal startup/working volume with Disk Utility, and sometimes optimize such with DiskWarrior (I did this time).
Then I restart from my internal volume to perform the duplicate. Normally when I duplicate I have to run such 2 or 3 times to get down to only the desktop.plist validation error.
The 6.0 version of Wing IDE 101 for Mac is available as a free download on our software library. Wing IDE 101 for Mac is sometimes referred to as 'Wing101'. Our built-in antivirus checked this Mac download and rated it as 100% safe. What's a good IDE for Python on Mac OS X? [closed] Ask Question. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason. I've used WingIDE and have been very happy. Intellisense is pretty good, some other things are a bit wacky but overall it's a very productive tool.
Since the last duplicate I installed the Python 2.4 build (versionised from the Apple 2.3 build) and WingIDE-Pro (an IDE for Pythom development). When running the current duplicate I had 37 validation errors even after a fourth try. I erased the external HD to begin with a clean slate and in three duplicates worked my way down to the seven validation errors shown in the Retrospect log below.
You will note that besides the 'normal' desktop.plist validation error, four are 48x48 png files in the WingIDE app and two are in the Python component wxPython binary package. I booted from the duplicate external HD and played around with both WingIDE and accessing wxPython without seeing any problems, but I could be missing something. Does anyone have any idea what the validation problem might be? Not exactly what you are asking but it answers most of your questions by way of telling you what I do. I have a internal 250GB mirrored RAID set as my normal startup and working volume. Then I have two external 250GB FW800 LaCie HDs. Each day I do an Immediate Duplicate of my startup volume to one of the external HDs, alternating the external HD used. After each duplicate I check the startup volume and the involved external HD with Disk Utility and I boot from the external HD just to make sure everything is OK. After the initial Duplicate, Retrospect actually copies only files that have changed (including location) but still has to completely scan both the startup volume and the external HD (to determine what has changed) an still verifies all files on both after the Duplicate. So normally only the work I did in a day is actually copied, but if I say optimized my startup volume with DiskWarrior (recreated an optimized Directory) then many more files are involved.
I usually do this when I stop for supper and it is completed before I finish the meal. It is normal to get at least one validation error (for the desktop.plist) because such changes so frequently, but when there are more validation errors I rerun the Duplicate which only takes a few minutes because few files are involved. The prescan and the validation take all the time. HTH LeeC Dual 2.5 Power Mac G5. If you have a newer Mac, the Retrospect 6.0 disaster recovery CD may not be compatible with your machine. Premium pdf editors for mac. I'm using Retrospect for duplicating to alternating external HDs and had not checked out the CD that came with Retrospect. So I popped it in and restarted (with C key) to check it out. It just churned for five minutes till I gave up - is this what you are talking about? Maybe I should make a boot CD with CCC for that extra level of options:) Lee C Dual 2.5 Power Mac G5 Mirrored Raid set startup volume multiple daisy chained external FW800 LaCie HDs. I'm new to Mac and Retrospect, though I'm retired from a software engineering career. I'm using Retrospect 6.0.204 to ghost my internal mirrored startup drive to an external LaCie HD. All seems to work well as I can boot from either and when booted from the external HD can do an immediate duplicate back to the internal mirrored set without any problems.
In either direction I do the duplicate repeatedly until I have no verification errors, or at least none other than the desktop plist file. I use Disk Utility to verify both internal and external before and after, and I restart immediately before starting Retrospect. The only other process running (that I have some control over) is VirusBarrier. As an additional precaution I would also like to do an immediate duplicate to DVD-R (less often) and be able to boot from such and duplicate back to the internal startup HD set.
I have the superdrive on my dual 2.5 Power Mac G5 (OS X 10.3.8) and am waiting for some DVD-R media at the moment so I have not tried this yet. I am worried though about how such is done in relation to the repeated duplicates mentioned above. Does Retrospect build a disk image that I can redo until I have no verification errors - seems wasteful and time consuming to actually burn the DVDs repeatedly. If there is no repeatable intermediate step (a disk image build and verify) then might I not need to do repeated duplicates if I duplicated the external HD instead (when booted from the internal set)?
Thank you, Lee C.
